🎄 Preparing for the Savior — Advent & Christmas at Union
Union Lutheran Church’s December newsletter turns our hearts toward the wonder of Christ’s birth and the quiet preparation of Advent. This year’s thematic series, “The Case for Christmas,” invites the congregation to explore the true biblical story of Jesus’ birth—its prophecies, its challenges, and its hope. Each Tuesday evening features a complimentary meal at 6:00 p.m. followed by Advent Worship at 6:30 p.m., with weekly topics such as Setting the Record Straight, A Mind-Boggling Proposition, and The Prophetic Fingerprint.
Throughout the season, the church offers ways to slow down, learn, and prepare:
🌟 Worship & Formation
Sunday worship continues with the sermon series Proclaim Peace, Joy, and Love from the book of Isaiah.
Lessons & Carols on December 28 invites the congregation to hear Scripture and song tracing salvation from darkness to light.
Sunday School classes explore the Christmas story—from the prophecy of Jesse’s stump to the birth of Jesus and John’s testimony.
One-Minute Prayer at Noon each Wednesday encourages members to pause and pray for the church and its ministries.
🎁 Service & Outreach
The Angel Tree supports the Rowan County Battered Women’s Shelter, with gifts and gift cards due December 14.
Donations for poinsettia dedications and luminary tributes help adorn worship and honor loved ones.
Mission Outreach continues to prepare welcome baskets, shut-in bags, and community support projects.
🎶 Music, Fellowship & Celebration
Seasonal music fills the month through Belles & Beaus, Chancel Choir, and Christmas Program rehearsals.
On December 7, carolers spread joy throughout the community—no musical talent required, just cheerful hearts.
The annual Christmas Program, A Christmas to Believe In, will be presented December 21 with refreshments to follow.
Union hosts its yearly Firemen’s Appreciation Banquet on December 12 to honor the all-volunteer Union Fire Department.
🙏 Milestones & Community Life
December worship includes baptisms, affirmations of faith, and the celebration of John & Nancy Kesler’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Council elections and the results of the Annual Congregational Meeting are shared, highlighting new leadership for 2026–2027.
The newsletter reflects on ministries, improvements around campus, and ongoing benevolence—December’s focus being the Battered Women’s Shelter.
As Christmas approaches, Union Lutheran Church invites members and neighbors to gather, serve, remember, and rejoice. Through worship, learning, generosity, and fellowship, the congregation lives out its mission:
