✨ "But God..."
— July at Union Lutheran Church
"We went to restore physical access to homes, but God used the mission to open eternal doors."
As we enter the heart of summer, Union Lutheran Church is reflecting on a simple but powerful phrase:
But God...
How often do we make our plans, organize our schedules, and prepare for what lies ahead—only to discover that God has something even greater in store?
That truth was experienced firsthand during our recent Intergenerational Domestic Mission Trip to Western North Carolina. Volunteers from four congregations traveled to communities recovering from devastating storms with a clear mission: rebuild damaged decks and provide practical assistance. But God had a larger purpose.
Through shared meals, heartfelt conversations, prayers, tears, and acts of service, relationships were built, hope was restored, and Christ's love was experienced in powerful ways. What began as a construction project became a ministry of healing, encouragement, and faith.
🛠️ Faith in Action: Western North Carolina Mission Trip
Our mission team returned home with sore muscles, grateful hearts, and countless stories of God's faithfulness. As volunteers hammered boards, stained lumber, and rebuilt access to homes, they also witnessed the ways God rebuilds lives and strengthens communities.
Thank you to everyone who prayed, donated, served, and supported this ministry. You demonstrated what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
✈️ Serving Beyond Our Borders: Pastor Heidi's Mission to Albania
This summer's mission work extends far beyond North Carolina.
Pastor Heidi has been called to serve with SON Ministries in Albania from June 25 through July 7, partnering with local leaders through English camps, women's ministry, and youth outreach. Through this mission, she continues Union's commitment to sharing Christ's love both locally and globally.
Please keep Pastor Heidi and the entire mission team in your prayers during their time of service.
🙌 Rejoice! NALC Continental Youth Gathering
From July 7–10, Union's youth representatives will travel to Roanoke, Virginia, for the NALC Continental Youth Gathering, themed "Rejoice!"
Throughout the gathering, our young people will experience worship, fellowship, leadership development, and opportunities to deepen their faith alongside youth from across North America.
We ask the congregation to keep Pete Nguyen, Nikki Nguyen, Sam Nguyen, Jesse Morgan, Jr., and Dalton Thompson in your prayers as they represent Union Lutheran Church.
📖 Growing in God's Word: Summer Bible Study
This July, members will gather for a special two-week study of the Book of Ruth.
Together, we'll explore themes of loyalty, redemption, faithfulness, and God's providential care. Ruth's remarkable story reminds us that even in seasons of uncertainty and loss, God continues to work out His purposes with grace and love.
⛺ Manger to the Cross Day Camp Is Almost Here!
The excitement is building for one of our favorite weeks of the year!
From July 19–24, children and youth will journey through the life of Jesus during our "Manger to the Cross" Day Camp. Campers will experience the story of Christ chronologically—from His birth in Bethlehem to His resurrection victory.
Throughout the week, participants will enjoy:
✨ Interactive Bible lessons
🎨 Crafts and creative activities
🎵 Music and worship
🎲 Games and fellowship
❤️ Faith-building experiences they'll never forget
Volunteers are still needed to help make this special week a success. Whether leading a station, mentoring campers, preparing snacks, or serving behind the scenes, there is a place for everyone to serve.
💧 July Benevolence Focus: Water Mission
Throughout July, Union Lutheran Church will support Water Mission International, a Christian engineering ministry that provides safe water solutions around the world.
Since 2001, Water Mission has served more than 8 million people in over 65 countries, bringing both clean water and the message of God's love to communities in need.
As we enjoy the blessings God has given us, we invite everyone to participate in helping provide one of life's most essential gifts to others.
🎓 Looking Ahead: Spiritual Fitness
Beginning August 4, Union Lutheran Church will launch a nine-week Spiritual Fitness study based on Exploring Our Lutheran Liturgy by Dennis R. Fakes.
Just as our physical bodies require intentional care and exercise, our faith also requires regular training, reflection, and growth. We invite everyone to prayerfully consider joining us for this opportunity to deepen our understanding of worship and strengthen our walk with Christ.
❤️ When We Step Out in Faith...
As we continue through this summer season of worship, mission, learning, and fellowship, may we remain open to the unexpected ways God works among us.
We may have our plans.
But God...
And often, what He builds is far greater than anything we could have imagined.
Through worship, learning, generosity, and fellowship, the congregation lives out its mission:
“Christ Centered ~ Mission Driven ~ Traditionally Grounded ~ Congregationally Focused.”
