Union Lutheran Church’s June 2026 newsletter invites the congregation to slow down and recognize God's presence amid a season filled with ministry, service, and summer activity. In her Monthly Musings, Pastor Heidi Punt reflects on the importance of "stopping to smell the roses," reminding believers that their worth is not measured by busyness or productivity but by God's grace. 🌱 Worship, Learning & Growing Deep Roots

June's worship and educational ministries focus on discipleship, courage, forgiveness, and faithfulness. Sunday School lessons lead children and adults through stories of Matthew's calling, Esther's bravery, Paul's plea for reconciliation, and Peter's walk on the water. Adult studies continue exploring both biblical heroes and practical applications of faith for everyday life.

A major highlight of the month is Intergenerational Vacation Bible School: Rooted in Christ, held June 8–11. Through lessons on creation, baptism, weathering life's storms, and bearing spiritual fruit, participants of all ages are encouraged to deepen their roots in God's Word and grow as disciples. The congregation is reminded that spiritual growth happens when believers remain connected to Christ, the true source of life and strength.

Catechism reflections continue through Sam Nguyen's study of the Creeds, emphasizing how these historic confessions unite Christians around the truths of Scripture and the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

🤝 Mission, Outreach & Serving Beyond Our Walls

June highlights Union's commitment to sharing Christ's love both locally and globally. The congregation gathers feedback following the successful First Annual Cruise'n fundraiser, which raised over $4,200 for Youth Missions and welcomed hundreds of community members onto church grounds. The event stands as a visible reminder of Union's desire to engage the surrounding community through hospitality and service.

Mission opportunities continue throughout the month as a team travels to Western North Carolina for a week of service and rebuilding ministry. Later in June, Pastor Heidi Punt is commissioned for a mission trip to Albania with SON Ministries, where she will participate in English camps, women's ministry, and youth outreach. Both efforts reflect Union's vision of being Christ's hands and feet wherever there is need.

The congregation also supports ongoing ministries through Chapel Time at Autumn Care, care for homebound members, disaster response initiatives, and preparations for youth attending the Continental Youth Gathering. June's benevolence emphasis on NALC Disaster Response reminds members that compassion often begins long before disaster strikes and continues long after the headlines fade.

🏡 Fellowship, Community & Congregational Life

Summer fellowship remains vibrant throughout June. The Mary & Martha Circle gathers for encouragement and Bible study, while Good Timers prepare for a July excursion to the Billy Graham Library. The congregation also hosts the Piedmont-East Clergy gathering, strengthening relationships with pastors and church leaders throughout the region.

Father's Day receives special recognition with worship, breakfast, and thanksgiving for fathers and father figures who reflect God's love and guidance within families and the church. Volunteers continue serving faithfully in worship leadership, music, hospitality, technology, and countless behind-the-scenes ministries that sustain congregational life.

June also celebrates milestones, birthdays, anniversaries, scholarship recipients, and recent ministry accomplishments while expressing gratitude for memorial gifts, generous donations, and the many individuals who contribute their time, talents, and resources to the work of the Gospel.

🕊️ Prayer, Leadership & Faithful Stewardship

The month includes important leadership and governance activities as the Governance Board begins its quarterly review process, evaluating ministry efforts and planning for future initiatives. Church leaders continue seeking ways to steward resources wisely while remaining focused on Union's mission of being Christ-centered, mission-driven, traditionally grounded, and congregationally focused.

The newsletter also makes space for remembrance, extending sympathy to grieving families and surrounding members, missionaries, first responders, nursing home residents, and those facing illness with ongoing prayer and support. Through these acts of care, Union embodies the truth that Christian community extends beyond Sunday worship into every season of life.
